Created in 1999 by two friends and former colleagues, bevel was an outlet for our long-honed optical and fashion skills.

Richard Mewha was born in Britain and now lives in New York City. Rick Nelson is a Midwesterner through and through. While working with the most innovative and dedicated Japanese technicians, we have constantly searched out new materials; coloring treatments and tweaked shapes to produce a wholly different take on eyewear.

In our first nine years, we have been the first to introduce “Milled Titanium” – cut from sheets of titanium – and bi-colored titanium frames. We have also developed beta titanium styles with a chunky look and a super light feel.

In the Spring 2007, we were the first to introduce betaplast – a beta core with a zyl overlay. You get a super light frame with a plastic look and nose pads.

We have also launched more in the “retro-nerd” acetate series and some cool big men’s titaniums.

* eyebobs is not a licensed product. It is designed by me, my staff, and other lunatics (a.k.a. personal friends) who wear reading glasses or who are opticians.
* eyebobs are not intended for the masses. Some pairs are cute, some are slim, and some are meant for someone who is a little edgy, definitely has an opinion, may be a bit too outspoken, who dares to be different, and who doesn’t mind attracting attention.
* A qualified optician can convert eyebobs to prescription glasses. If they say they can’t, find someone else in your area. We sell to optometrists, ophthalmologists, and opticians nationally (and internationally) who make prescription lenses for these frames everyday.

Unique pieces made from pure natural horn

Since 1978 the HOFFMANN frame makers from Kelberg in the volcanic Eifel have been handcrafting natural horn frames. Long years of experience of working with this unusual material, a flair for perfection and unmistakable design make the work of our specialists into a triumph of the art of handcrafting.

The design of HOFFMANN natural horn frames has little in common with the image of the classic horn frame. Created using traditional handcrafting techniques, they reflect modern design both in shape and colour. Whether delicate or striking, these natural horn frames are unrivalled pieces. HOFFMANN natural horn frames are created from the horn of the Indian water buffalo. The Washington Convention on Endangered Species does not apply to these agricultural animals. Although the horns of a water buffalo can be up to two metres in length, only a small part of the horn is suitable for a spectacle frame. From this small part we select only those pieces which fulfil our criteria regarding the quality of the material and a harmonious and unusual colouring. The making of a horn frame does not pollute the environment. The only waste products are horn shavings, which serve as a natural fertiliser.
